Elevated Flares

Sonic Flares (Mach-X Series)

General

  • Designed to achieve sonic exit velocity (1.0 mach) at elevated flow rates
  • High pressure waste gas creates a turbulent mixing zone for greater combustion efficiency
  • Multi-arm, fixed orifice nozzles (variable nozzles available with the Encore FlexMach flare)
  • Provides smokeless combustion of heavy waste gas vapors at sonic velocity

Selection Criteria / Advantages

  • Smokeless combustion at sonic velocity (range of flow where exit velocity reaches 1.0 mach)
  • Smokeless combustion with up to 25% by mass of entrained liquid hydrocarbons at maximum flow rate
  • Lower radiant heat than sub-sonic flares
  • Stable and reliable combustion

  • Flame retention CrossFire burner to ensure stable combustion
  • Nozzles designed to cross-light from a single point ignition source
  • Designed to accept a wide range of waste gas pressures
  • High temperature rated materials in the heat affected area
  • Conical exit nozzles act as velocity type purge seals to prevent flashback and minimize operating expense
